About Paris Sports
(Paris, France)
The French capital may still be smarting from losing out on the 2012 Olympics but its facilities are non-the-less first class and widely available at centres around the city.
Visitors to Paris can enjoy watching or taking part in a wide range of sporting activities. Football and rugby are popular spectator sports and Paris is home to a number of top clubs. With a capacity to hold 80,000 spectators, the Stade de France hosts many international games. Although the French national football team aren't quite the kings of the world they were in 1998, their Rugby team consistently performs well at home in front a very partisan crowd and France will be hosting the 2006 Rugby World Cup.
Cycling is also very popular - the Tour de France finishes at the Champs Élysées - while Paris has more than 60 miles of cycle lanes. Originating in France, boules is another popular game and there are many places to play, while the city also offers excellent facilities for tennis, golf, ice skating and swimming among other sports.
Swimming can be a little tricky during school terms as the children have exclusive ue f them during class time, but during the summer the public take to the water more easily.
Horse racing fans can enjoy attending to of the country's most important races, The Prix de la République and the Grand Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, both held at courses in Paris.
